KTB's Legal Foundation and Statutory Functions
Kenya Tourism Board was established as a state corporation by the Tourism Act 2011 (Cap. 383, Laws of Kenya) — the primary legislation governing tourism in Kenya. KTB operates under a clear statutory mandate, accountable to the Cabinet Secretary responsible for Tourism.
Under Section 30 of the Tourism Act 2011, KTB is mandated to market and promote Kenya as a tourist destination, both domestically and internationally, and to carry out such other functions as may be prescribed under the Act. KTB's functions are further elaborated across the Act and in subsequent subsidiary legislation and government policy directives.
