"The School shall be the successor of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication established under Regulation 3 of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication Order, 2011."

From the Voice of Kenya Training School to today

1961

Founded as the Voice of Kenya Training School

Established to train personnel for Kenya's national broadcaster in the years following independence.

2011

Established as KIMC by Legal Notice

Reconstituted as the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication under Legal Notice No. 197 of 2011, becoming a State Corporation.

2025

Kenya School of Communication Bill drafted

Government tables a Bill to reconstitute KIMC with an expanded statutory mandate spanning certification, research, and government advisory.

Ongoing

Transition to the Kenya School of Communication

Certificates, staff, and contracts continue without interruption as the institution's mandate formally expands.

A broader mandate, not a new institution

The Bill doesn't create something new from scratch — it formally recognizes and expands what KIMC's founding mandate already implied: training, research, production, and now statutory certification and government advisory functions.

What ends is the narrower 2011 legal instrument. What continues is everything the institution has built since 1961.
