How the process actually starts, and what it depends on.
Yes, for most categories. Full, Full Family, and Corporate candidates are proposed by two existing members. Spouse Membership is proposed directly by the member-spouse, and Junior or Juvenile Membership is proposed by a parent who is already a member. If you don't yet know a member who can propose you, the Membership Office can advise on next steps.
It's genuinely easier with a connection, since membership here has always worked through introduction rather than a cold application. That said, contacting the Membership Office directly is a reasonable first step — they can advise on realistic paths forward for your situation.
It varies by category and by ballot cycle, since vetting and balloting involve the membership itself rather than running on a fixed calendar. We'd rather not publish a number that turns out to be wrong for your circumstances — the Membership Office can give you a realistic estimate once your proposer is confirmed.
The Membership Office will talk you through the outcome and what — if anything — can be reconsidered for a future cycle. Because the process is genuinely considered rather than a formality, an unsuccessful ballot isn't necessarily the end of the road; it's best discussed directly rather than assumed.
No. Junior and Juvenile Membership do not require physical vetting. Full, Full Family, Spouse, and Fixed Term Membership go through the club's standard vetting process.
Costs & Payment
What's fixed, what varies, and how it's paid.
Full Membership is KES 1,200,000 as a one-time fee, plus an annual subscription of KES 61,460. Full Family Membership is KES 1,500,000 plus KES 96,236 annually. Junior Membership is KES 11,375. Spouse, Juvenile, Fixed Term, and Corporate fees vary by circumstance and are confirmed directly by the Membership Office. See the full Categories & Fees page for details by category.
For Full and Full Family Membership, there are two components: a one-time membership fee paid on joining, and a separate annual subscription paid each year thereafter. Both figures are listed on the Categories & Fees page for the categories where they're fixed.
The Membership Office will confirm accepted payment methods and timing as part of your application — this is best handled directly with them rather than assumed in advance.
Family, Access & Life as a Member
What membership actually includes once you've joined.
Yes. Full Family Membership extends privileges to a spouse and children under 25. Alternatively, a spouse can be proposed for their own Spouse Membership, and children can be proposed individually for Junior (14–25) or Juvenile (under 14) Membership under a parent's account.
Full Membership covers a single individual. Full Family Membership carries a higher one-time fee and annual subscription, but extends full privileges to a spouse and children under 25 under one membership, rather than requiring separate individual memberships for each family member.
Yes. As one of only 64 Royal-chartered golf clubs in the world, you'll be able to access reciprocal privileges at fellow Royal chartered clubs internationally — a benefit the Membership Office can detail further once you've joined.
