A Century of the Tannahill Shield

Kenya's oldest inter-club amateur golf tournament, held at Royal Nairobi almost every year since 1924 — and one your name could sit alongside on a shield that's carried it since 1938.

Since 1924

Founded by the Man Who Helped Build Kenyan Golf

The first Easter Tournament was held at Royal Nairobi in 1924, with teams from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Muthaiga. It was organised by Major Arthur C. Tannahill, the club's Honorary Secretary at the time, who went on to become the first President of the Kenya Golf Union.

In 1938, the tournament's trophy was renamed the Tannahill Shield in his honour — a name it has carried through every edition since.

April 2025

The centenary edition of the Tannahill Shield is held. Mombasa Golf Club — our sister club — makes history, winning the centenary edition for the first time.
