Eighteen holes, one forest, no shortcuts.
Reconstructed by Peter Matkovich and reopened in 2004, Muthaiga's course is regarded for the fastest greens in East Africa — set entirely within the quiet of Karura Forest.
The Setting
A course that shares the ground with the forest, not the other way around.
Karura Forest doesn't sit at the edge of Muthaiga's course — it runs through it. Lakes and ponds added during the 2004 reconstruction sit alongside indigenous woodland, and it isn't unusual to share a fairway with Egyptian geese or the occasional troop of monkeys.
It changes how a round feels, even before the first tee shot.
The Course at a Glance
Built for a serious round.
Craftsmanship
Rebuilt once, by someone who understood why it mattered.
In 2001, the club engaged South African course designer Peter Matkovich to reconstruct the course. The result, reopened in 2004, added new lakes and water features — among the most extensive of any course in Kenya — without losing the character of the original layout.
It's the reason members still talk about the greens before they talk about anything else.
