The Setting

A view that tends to still a room.

Angama Mara sits on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, a thousand feet above the Mara Triangle — the same ground the founders, Steve and Nicky Fitzgerald, chose after decades building lodges across East Africa. It is the reason "Angama," suspended in mid-air, became the name for everything that followed.

Each of the fifteen tented suites is glass-fronted, floor to ceiling, so the escarpment and the plains below are never out of view — not from the bed, not from the bath, not from the private deck where most guests end up taking their coffee.

Dining at Angama Mara

Wherever the light is best.

Breakfast is rarely served in the same place twice — sometimes on the main deck, sometimes carried out to wherever the morning's game drive happens to end. Dinner tends to move outdoors as the light drops, lanterns lit along the escarpment's edge.

For honeymooners and anniversaries, we recreate the Out of Africa picnic properly — a private table, a fever tree, and a view that does most of the talking.

Angama Mara sits inside one of the highest predator-density regions in the Mara ecosystem, with direct access to the Mara Triangle — the stretch of the reserve where the Great Migration's river crossings most often happen.

From Guests at Angama Mara

What it's like, in their words.

"We watched a leopard from the deck of our suite before breakfast had even arrived. Our children still talk about it. We will be returning."

The Hartley Family — Angama Mara

"Our guide seemed to know every animal in the Mara Triangle by name. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown someone's home."

R. & S. Okafor — Angama Mara

"The forest BBQ, lit only by lantern, was the most romantic evening of our honeymoon — and we've been to a great many dinners since."

The Whitfields — Angama Mara

"You forget you're a thousand feet up until you look out the bath window and remember all over again."

N. Vance — Angama Mara

Getting to Angama Mara
