62% of visitor expenditure is retained within local communities and regional supply chains — an improvement from 58% in 2024. Conservation zone destinations (Northern Circuit, Amboseli) lead at 74%, where community conservancy models ensure high local equity. Coastal resort destinations lag at 48% due to vertically integrated international operators.

Women now hold 47% of formal tourism employment — up from 44% in 2024 and 38% in 2019. Leadership roles for women have grown most significantly in community-based tourism enterprises in the Northern Circuit and Laikipia, where women-led conservancy management has become the dominant model.

Kenya now has 89 active community conservancies covering 1.2 million hectares of tourism land — making it Africa's leading community conservancy network. These conservancies collectively employ 12,400 community members directly, with benefits reaching an estimated 240,000 households in adjacent communities through revenue sharing and employment multiplier effects.

Kenya's Cultural Heritage Preservation Index — measuring tourism's contribution to maintaining living cultural practices, traditional crafts, languages, and heritage sites — reached 82 in 2025. Tourism revenue has directly funded restoration of Lamu Old Town's coral stone buildings, Swahili cultural documentation projects, and 14 community cultural centres in Maasai and Samburu tourism zones.
