The Law Society of Kenya
LSK is the statutory body established under the Advocates Act to regulate the legal profession in Kenya, protect the rule of law, and represent the interests of both advocates and the public in the administration of justice.
What LSK does
LSK's mandate is set out in the Law Society of Kenya Act, 2014 and the Advocates Act. It operates across three core pillars — regulating the profession, representing advocates, and developing the law.
Regulation
LSK maintains the Roll of Advocates, sets professional standards, and investigates and disciplines misconduct by members of the legal profession.

Representation

Council 2025–2027
The LSK Council is the governing body of the Society, elected by members every two years. The current council took office following the October 2025 elections.

Standing committees
The Council operates through standing committees, each responsible for a specific area of LSK's mandate. Committee membership is drawn from the elected council and co-opted advocates.

Law Society of Kenya Act, 2014
The primary legislation establishing LSK as a statutory body, setting out its objects, governance structure, membership, and powers. Repealed and replaced the former Law Society of Kenya Act, Cap. 18.

Governs admission to the Roll of Advocates, the issue of practising certificates, the conduct and discipline of advocates, and the Advocates Complaints Commission. This is the principal statute regulating legal practice in Kenya.

Establishes the National Legal Aid Service and provides a framework for the delivery of legal aid services in Kenya. LSK is a key partner in the implementation of this Act and accredits legal aid service providers.
