Frequently asked

Your complaint is treated confidentially within LSK. The advocate will be informed that a complaint has been filed against them, but your personal details will not be shared beyond what is necessary for the investigation.
Your safety matters. If you fear retaliation, note this in your complaint and LSK will take additional steps to protect your identity during the investigation. You can also contact LSK by phone to discuss the situation confidentially before filing.
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the complaint. Simple matters may be resolved within two to three months; complex matters involving financial investigations may take longer. You will be kept informed throughout.
Depending on the severity of the misconduct, the advocate may receive a reprimand, a fine, suspension, or have their licence revoked. In cases involving criminal conduct, LSK may refer the matter to law enforcement.
LSK's complaints process is a disciplinary mechanism, not a compensation scheme. However, LSK may order repayment as part of a disciplinary sanction, and you may also pursue a civil claim against the advocate separately.
