Our organisation

Who We Are

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is a State Corporation established under the Kenya Airports Authority Act, Chapter 395 of the Laws of Kenya. KAA is responsible for the management, operation, and development of State aerodromes in Kenya.

Our mandate covers Kenya's nine airports — from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, East Africa's busiest and most connected aviation hub, to regional airports serving Kenya's counties and supporting the country's horticultural, tourism, and domestic connectivity needs.

KAA is headquartered in Nairobi and operates under the oversight of the Board of Directors. We are a self-financing State Corporation, generating revenue from aeronautical and non-aeronautical sources across our airport network. Our work is guided by Kenya's Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda, with aviation infrastructure recognised as a key enabler of the country's economic development.

Accountability

Governance & Compliance

KAA operates within a robust governance framework anchored in Kenyan law, the State Corporations Act, and international best practice in public sector governance.

Legal & regulatory framework

The Kenya Airports Authority Act, Chapter 395 of the Laws of Kenya, establishes KAA as a corporate body with perpetual succession, the power to sue and be sued, and the mandate to establish, manage, and develop aerodromes in Kenya. The Act defines the Board's composition, powers, and obligations.
As a State Corporation, KAA is subject to the State Corporations Act, including the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) guidelines on governance, remuneration, and board operations.
KAA's financial management, reporting, and audit obligations are governed by the PFMA, including requirements for annual financial statements audited by the Auditor-General and quarterly reporting to the National Treasury.
KAA's airport operations are subject to oversight by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in matters of aerodrome licensing, safety, and security standards — operating in complementary roles within Kenya's aviation regulatory framework.
KAA is committed to compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) applicable to airport operations and infrastructure, including Annex 14 (Aerodromes), Annex 17 (Security), and Annex 9 (Facilitation). Regular audits assess compliance and drive continuous improvement.

Audit & oversight

KAA's accounts are audited annually by the Auditor-General of Kenya. Internal audit functions report to the Board Audit & Risk Committee. KAA is also subject to oversight by Parliamentary committees and the Public Accounts Committee.
