Segera is owned by the Zeitz Foundation, which sets long-term conservation, community, and cultural direction across the conservancy — including the Zeitz Collection featured in The Work.

Wilderness Collection

Day-to-day hospitality operations — the villas, dining, and guest experience described across Your Stay — are run by Wilderness Collection, an established operator in African luxury hospitality.

The Long Run

Segera is a founding member of The Long Run, a global network of conservation-led hospitality businesses that share standards, data, and practices across member properties.

How This Is Funded

Hospitality revenue is the engine. Not a side benefit of one.

Segera does not operate as a donor-dependent conservation project. Guest stays are the primary, ongoing funding source for the work documented across this site — supplemented by Zeitz Foundation capital for larger infrastructure and long-term projects.

What we can say, and what we can't yet

We can confirm that hospitality revenue directly funds conservation, community, and cultural work, and that Zeitz Foundation capital supplements larger projects. We do not publish exact allocation percentages across the four areas — a detailed financial breakdown is a future addition to this page, not a permanent omission.

Long-Term by Design

One ownership structure, for the entire life of the restoration.

Segera hasn't changed hands since the land was acquired in 1998. That continuity matters for a project measured in decades, not seasons — reforestation, wildlife recovery, and community programs all depend on stewardship that outlasts any single financial cycle.

Governance decisions affecting conservation strategy, community programs, and cultural direction sit with the Zeitz Foundation; operational hospitality decisions sit with Wilderness Collection. Neither operates in isolation from the other.
