The Diploma in Hospitality Management is Kenya Utalii College's flagship qualification and the most sought-after hospitality credential in East Africa. The programme is designed in direct collaboration with Kenya's leading hotel groups — Sarova Hotels, Serena Hotels, Fairmont Properties, PrideInn Hotels, and Hemingways Collection — ensuring that every module is current, practical, and directly applicable to the workplace.

Students train across all core departments of a full-service hotel: rooms division, food and beverage operations, housekeeping, front office, and hotel management. Training takes place in KUC's purpose-built hospitality facilities and at Utalii Hotel — a fully operational training hotel on the Nairobi campus that gives students real-world experience under professional supervision before their industrial attachment.

The programme's mandatory six-month industrial attachment places students directly with employer partners — giving them professional experience, employer relationships, and in many cases a direct pathway to employment before they graduate. Our KUCCPS-registered programme is eligible for government sponsorship, HELB loans, and county bursaries.

6-Month Mandatory Industrial Attachment

All students complete a six-month industrial attachment with a KUC employer partner. This is a structured, supervised placement — not work experience. Students are assigned a hotel supervisor and an academic supervisor, and complete a structured assessment portfolio during the placement.

Can I apply if I scored below C plain in KCSE? +

The minimum entry requirement is a mean grade of C (plain). Applicants who scored below this but have relevant work experience in hospitality may apply for an equivalence assessment through the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA). Contact our admissions team to discuss your specific situation.

Is the diploma recognised outside Kenya? +

Yes. The Diploma in Hospitality Management is accredited to KNQA Level 5 and is affiliated with the UNWTO through KUC's TEDQUAL certification. Our graduates work across East Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and internationally. The EUHOFA membership also allows credit recognition discussions with member institutions globally.

Can I apply through KUCCPS? +

Yes. Kenya Utalii College is registered with KUCCPS. Government-sponsored students should apply through the KUCCPS portal and select KUC as their preferred institution. Self-sponsored students can apply directly through the KUC admissions portal.

How does the industrial attachment work? +

The six-month industrial attachment takes place between Year 2 and Year 3. KUC's employer relations team works with 300+ partner employers to match students to appropriate placements based on their performance, interests, and employer availability. Students receive a stipend from the employer, are supervised by both a hotel supervisor and a KUC academic supervisor, and complete a structured assessment portfolio. The attachment carries academic credit and is assessed as part of the final diploma.

What is the tuition fee structure? +

Tuition is charged per semester at KES 38,000. There is a one-time registration fee of KES 5,500 and caution money of KES 3,000 (refundable). The application fee is KES 1,000. Total cost for the three-year programme (excluding accommodation and living expenses) is approximately KES 240,000. HELB loans, government bursaries, and county bursaries are all accepted.

Is accommodation available on campus? +

Yes. KUC has on-campus accommodation for students at the Nairobi campus. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come basis following acceptance of your offer. Students who do not secure campus accommodation typically arrange private rental accommodation in the Upper Kabete / Westlands area. Contact the student welfare office for the current accommodation fee structure.

Can I upgrade from a Certificate to this Diploma? +

Yes. Graduates holding a KUC Certificate (KNQA Level 4) in a relevant hospitality or tourism programme may apply for credit recognition and enter the Diploma programme with advanced standing. This means you may be able to complete the diploma in less than the standard three years. Contact the admissions office for a credit recognition assessment.
