For decades, "blue economy" has appeared throughout KMFRI's conferences, directorates, and public communication — but until now, no single destination explained what Kenya's blue economy actually contains, sector by sector, or what KMFRI specifically knows about it.
This platform changes that. It maps KMFRI's 45 years of research, data infrastructure, and advisory capability onto the structure of Kenya's aquatic economy — from the offshore fisheries of the Indian Ocean Exclusive Economic Zone to the inland ponds of a smallholder farmer in Kisumu.
"A government minister, a coastal county official, or an investor should be able to come here and understand, in concrete terms, what Kenya's waters can produce — and what evidence exists to act on it."
Four sectors structure this platform: marine resources, freshwater resources, the aquaculture economy, and the coastal economy. Each is backed by KMFRI research programs, open datasets, and — where relevant — direct advisory pathways for investors and policymakers.
