Jean-Baptiste Nkurunziza

Documenting Francophone communities across East Africa through portraiture and landscape, currently exhibiting Migration & Memory at our Nairobi Centre.

About the Artist

Two years documenting migration and memory

Jean-Baptiste Nkurunziza spent two years photographing Francophone communities across East Africa, from Nairobi's long-settled Congolese and Burundian neighbourhoods to more recent arrivals still finding their footing. His work pairs portraiture with landscape, tracing how migration reshapes both people and the places they settle.

His current exhibition, Migration & Memory, is on view at our Nairobi Centre through the end of July. He also leads occasional portfolio-review sessions for members interested in documentary photography — ask at the gallery desk for upcoming dates.
