Maize TIMPs Inventory
A consolidated catalogue of 116 technologies, 20 innovations and 57 management practices for maize production.
Kenya's most widely grown staple crop, and the most extensively catalogued system on this platform — bringing together its technology inventory, breeding infrastructure, and growing-region context in one place.
Catalogued for maize
Drawn from the maize-specific TIMPs inventory and the CGIAR-supported breeding modernisation work.
A consolidated catalogue of 116 technologies, 20 innovations and 57 management practices for maize production.
Twenty years of historical maize breeding data digitised into a shared Breeding Management System with CGIAR's Excellence in Breeding platform.
Climate-smart practices validated and packaged for delivery across value chains, including maize production systems.
Other crop systems
Maize is the first crop hub built in full. The technologies for these other systems are already catalogued and searchable in the Marketplace — dedicated hub pages for each are next.
Where it's grown
Maize is grown across most of Kenya, with the highest concentration in the Rift Valley and parts of Western Kenya — long known as the country's principal maize-growing belt.
This is general agricultural geography rather than KALRO-specific platform data. County-by-county applicability for individual technologies in the maize inventory is still being tagged.
Experts & publications
The maize inventory is attributed to a research programme rather than named individuals in the source records — the Expert Network is designed to close this gap over time.
Annual reports and journal literature referencing maize research are held in KALRO's library and eRepository, unified in the Knowledge Centre.
